Originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico but having grown up in Houston, Texas, Jimenez holds a JD and a PhD in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests center on the legal history of the United States and Puerto Rico, and the role that nationalism has played in shaping that history. At UIC, Jimenez has taught courses on human rights in Latin America, the United States' role in the region, as well as the African diaspora in Latin America.
