Valedictory for Prof. Robert Johnston at JGAPE

Valedictory for Prof. Robert Johnston at JGAPE

Robert Johnson has recently completed a five-year term as co-editor of the Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. According to Dr. Kristin Hoganson, President of the Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, Johnston“worked tirelessly to enhance the quality of the journal, attract a wide range of contributions, nurture younger scholars, connect with secondary school teachers and wider public audiences, advance methodological innovation, and draw attention to the relevance of the past to ongoing challenges for our democracy.  His work has paid off in higher readerships and a greater energy and spirit of innovation in the field.  Everyone working in the time period — and there are many of us — are indebted to him for advancing our field in such a significant way.” JGAPE also published a valedictory note describing the success of Robert and his co-editor Benjamin H. Johnson (Loyola University Chicago).
