About

Grace Bruett is a history graduate student at the University of Illinois at Chicago with a special focus on early modern Europe, and an emphasis on the eighteenth century as well as cultural and gender history. She is actively engaged in research related to salon culture and women’s contributions to the Enlightenment and the French Revolution. She earned her B.A. in History from St. Ambrose University, where she conducted independent research on witchcraft and gender, as well as Orwellian political philosophy. Her undergraduate capstone thesis focused on xenophobia surrounding Marie Antoinette prior to the French Revolution. Her current work continues to explore the intersections of women’s cultural and political influence in early modern Europe, presently working on research related to the Bluestockings and the sexual politics surrounding critique of empire.
