About

Briana is a PhD student researching education, carceral, and urban history where they converge in the institutionalization of school resource officers in the Southwestern United States. She is currently a teaching assistant for Early America. From 2024-2025, she was a Crossing Latinidades Mellon Fellow. In 2024, she was a Latine Archives Directory Intern for Raices in Chicago. In Fall 2023, she was elected co-chair for UIC's Latinx Heritage Month responsible forĀ events and programming.
Briana holds an MA from Texas Christian University in History with academic certification in Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, as well as a BA from the University of North Texas in History with academic certification in Latina/o and Mexican American Studies. She has produced public-facing scholarship on Texas's underserved and understudied neighborhoods and communities via the Memories of Poly project and managed the Civil Rights in Black and Brown Oral History Project. In addition to her scholarly and community work, Briana enjoys supporting student success in and outside of the classroom.
