About
Zhanxiang Wang is a PhD student in history at the University of Illinois Chicago, where he focuses on the history of medicine and American history. His research interests center on the social, cultural, and political dimensions of medicine and public health, particularly within the context of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States. With a background in the history of science and technology from Peking University and philosophy from Huaqiao University, Zhanxiang brings a multidisciplinary approach to his work, exploring how scientific knowledge and medical practices intersect with broader societal and cultural forces. At UIC, he aims to deepen his understanding of how the politics of health and medicine shaped responses to crises like the HIV/AIDS epidemic, while also considering the roles of marginalized communities in influencing public health policies. Ultimately, Zhanxiang aspires to produce scholarship that is both locally rooted and globally relevant, contributing to a broader understanding of medicine’s place in society.
