Programs
The Department of History at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) offers serious and successful undergraduate and graduate programs, including a strong Teaching of History program. At any one time, close to 400 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students are enrolled and working toward degrees. In addition to the BA, MA, and Ph.D., we also offer BAT and MAT degrees in conjunction with the College of Education. As a Research One University, UIC is one of 88 universities that receive at least $40 million of federal funding per year.
Meanwhile, UIC's History faculty are outstanding scholars, leading their specialties in new and exciting directions. Our graduate students enter into a vibrant community of scholars, and many go on to secure tenure-track jobs in universities and colleges throughout the nation. Undergraduates have the opportunity to create their own area of concentration within the major. Students at every level also profit from the department’s connections to other leading institutions and universities in the Midwest. All in all, the History Department is an ideal setting in which to garner a broad-based education and build skills in research, writing, and critical analysis at any level.
