About

I am a first-year graduate student in the Teaching of History Program (MAT). I earned my Bachelors in Anthropology from Reed College in 2020 and studied anthropology at the University of Chicago before entering teaching and beginning at UIC. I am working towards my teaching certification in History and the Social Sciences (grades 5-12) and English as a Second Language education. My scholarly interests include Islam, world history, and the history of American empire. I am especially interested in pedagogy for world history and religious studies.

On campus, I work as a graduate assistant to the History department and have served as a teaching assistant in Religious Studies. Off campus, I teach 7th grade students humanities at High Jump, an academic enrichment and mentorship program for high-achieving, low-income middle school students in Chicago. I am currently working on an article on teaching critical civics through ancient Roman history for the National Council for the Social Studies. I am also a contributor to The Palace of the Thundering Gods, a forthcoming collaborative open history of religion in the United States.
