Ismael Biyashev wins Leo Schelbert Prize for the Best Dissertation in History Dept

The Department of History wishes a huge congratulations to Ismael Biyashev on winning the Leo Schelbert Prize for the Best Dissertation from the department. This award recognized the best UIC History dissertation defended between Fall 2022 and Summer 2023.

Ismael’s dissertation supervised by Marina Mogilner was titled “Beyond Myths and Ruins: Archaeology and Nomadism in the Russian Empire and the Early USSR 1850-1920s.” The Graduate Advisory Committee was deeply impressed by Ismael’s excellent work! Congratulations, Ismael!
